The Scarborough Transcriptions
Initially born as a result of rescuing an extremely tattered copy of Hinderwell's 1798 History of Scarborough that had been destined for the bin. It seemed such a waste to dump a 210 year old book, so I scanned each page, ocr'd and manually proofed it. The results have been compiled into a database and the text version is now fully searchable here online. This is a superb resource for historians and geneaologists.

Since that first book, several more have now been added and the list stands at...

The History and Antiquities of Scarborough and the Vicinity - Thomas Hinderwell (1798)
The History of Filey in the County of York - John Cole (1820)
Theakstons guide to Scarborough 1853 - Theakston (1853)
Ye Unreliable Guide to Scarborough - Never Lie Whunse (1890)
An Historical Scarborough Guide - Sedman & Weddill (1821)
